For Physicians

Join a Physician-Led Nocturnist Network

Flexible night-shift work across New England community hospitals — physician-owned, transparently compensated, and built around your schedule.

Why SOA

A nocturnist career on your terms.

SOA was built by nocturnists for nocturnists. We removed the agency, kept the flexibility, and added the operational support that solo locum work doesn't provide.

Flexible scheduling

Block-based, week-on/week-off, or surge-only — pick the cadence that fits your life.

Multi-site variety

Work across several New England community hospitals within your drive radius.

Competitive compensation

Above-market hourly rates with no agency markup eating into your pay.

No middleman

Physician-owned and physician-led. Decisions made by clinicians, not recruiters.

Who we're looking for

Nocturnists who want stability without an agency contract.

Whether you're a career nocturnist, transitioning from day-shift hospital medicine, or supplementing an academic practice — if you want night work that pays fairly and respects your time, you'll fit at SOA.

Qualifications

  • Board-certified or board-eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine
  • Active or eligible for licensure in at least one New England state
  • Willing to be cross-credentialed across multiple partner hospitals
  • Comfortable with EHR-based admission and cross-cover workflows
  • Strong clinical judgment for night-shift autonomous decision-making

Compensation is set above local market rate for nocturnist work because SOA removes the agency middleman. Pay is shift-based with transparent terms, and there are no recruitment fees, contract fees, or surprise deductions. Specifics are discussed during onboarding based on your scheduling commitment and sites covered.

Flexible by design

Choose the shift length that fits your life.

SOA is built around nocturnist flexibility — not agency blocks. Whether you want short micro-shifts or extended overnight coverage, you pick the length and we build the schedule around you.

6hr

Short block

Maximum flexibility, minimal disruption to your daytime life

8hr

Traditional

Classic shift length, predictable handoffs

10hr

Extended

Broader coverage window with fewer shift transitions

12hr

Standard nocturnist

The most common nocturnist shift across our partner hospitals

16hr

Full overnight

Covers the full overnight period into morning handoff

Flex

Open to any

Let the schedule drive — you're available for whatever the unit needs

On-site or telenocturnist

All shift lengths are available on-site or as telenocturnist coverage. Telenocturnist shifts handle admissions, cross-cover, and rapid triage remotely — ideal for surgeons transitioning to night work or physicians outside a drive radius to the hospital.
